State disburses $30.2 million in Upstate Destination Resort License fees
ALBANY – A list of 22 counties and three municipalities across upstate New York are receiving $30.2 million in license fees paid by newly licensed destination resort casinos.
The payouts are one portion of the $151 million in commercial casino license fees that are being distributed across upstate using the same formula for casino gaming revenue that’s laid out in the Upstate New York Gaming and Economic Development Act of 2013.
Of the $151 million distrubuted statewide, 80 percent will be applied for school aid and property tax relief, 10 percent will be split between host municipality and county, and 10 percent will go to counties in the regions established by the Gaming and Economic Development Act based on population.
In the Southern Tier and Finger Lakes region, where $10 million will be dolled out, Broome County is slated to receive $2.4 million. Tompkins County will get $1.2 million, and Chemung County will see $489,500.
Other counties in the region include: Schuyler County ($117,546); Tioga County ($601,619); and Wayne County ($235,552). The remaining $40 million is being distributed to public schools statewide as part of the state’s education formula.
Other New York regions to get funding include: the Catskills or Hudson Valley region ($10.2 million) and the Capital region ($10 million).
State officials say destination resorts will help drive more tourism and economic development dollars upstate.
