Undefeated Pony League

NORWICH – The fans crowded round the baseball diamond to watch Norwich's Pony League squad take on Unadilla Valley on June 24, a game in which ultimately lead to Norwich emerging as the 13-6 victors, remaining undefeated on the season.
A rematch of an earlier season matchup, which Norwich would win 14-1, Norwich saw slightly better competition from UV this time around.
After just one inning, UV battled to keep the game close at just a 3-2 score in favor of Norwich.
“Our pitchers threw strikes and they were just hitting them, I tip my hat to them,” said Norwich Pony league head coach Nick McCullough.
Although Norwich would ultimately outscore UV, UV would battle in the books with Norwich as much of the statistics ultimately were even throughout. Norwich would post eight hits in the game, to which UV would match with eight of their own.
Errors were a slight problem for both teams as well, both teams would see four errors a piece.
“We had eight hits and 13-runs so that was fine, overall, I just don’t think we were in sync completely today,” said McCullough. “We still did very well and I am happy with our performance, but we just weren’t in sync today.”
Pitching for Norwich for four and a third innings was Tom Flanagan. Flanagan saw some success on the mound when his defense and himself helped hold UV to just five runs during his time on the mound, striking out two batters along the way.
“I put Mike Trevisani in at the end, because I give them credit, they would not go down easily. They just kept fighting so I had to throw Trevisani in to close it out,” said McCullough.
Trevisani would close out the game, striking out seven batters in two and two thirds of an inning.
Pitching for UV were three athletes – Carkuff, Lamont, and Postma– combined this trio would record four strikeouts and allow 10-walks.
Norwich and UV would exchange runs for much of the game, as Norwich would end the seven inning game with a run in the fourth, two in the fifth, and three in the sixth to close the game out.
“We won simply today because our offense is our offense, we scored 13 and we just outscored them today,” said McCullough.

Up next for Norwich (5-0), they will be hosting Sidney on Monday, June 27, at 6 p.m. This marks another rematch game, where Norwich previously defeated Sidney 12-0.
“We dominated them (Sidney), I think we will be back in sync for them. I expect us to be back in sync,” said McCullough. “We're going to have a little work out, then I am giving them the weekend off. I expect good things come Monday.”
