Successful first season in Chenango County
CHENANGO COUNTY – The Chenango Composite Bullthistles traveled to Lippman Park, Wawarsing, NY on Sunday, June 12 for the final race of the season, the New York State Championship race.
"We had five racers compete, Scott Lord of Greene in the junior varsity race, Stanton Baker of Plymouth in the freshman race, Alex Trifunovic of Greene, Noah Bufalini of Norwich and Ethen Eldred of Sherburne in the middle school eighth grade race, said coach Rob Baker. "The event was moved from Round Top, New York on June 5, to Lippman Park due to the Round Top event being cancelled due to inclement weather. The team fought off the trials and tribulations of flat tires and crashes and all racers completed each of their events."
• Lippman Race:
In the eighth grade race, two of the three riders experienced flat tires during the race. Alex Trifunovic finished in 15th place, Ethen Eldred finished 20th and Noah Bufalini 22nd out of 24 total riders.
In the freshman race, Stanton Baker finished 17th out of 18 with a good crash.
In the junior varsity race, Scott Lord had the most successful day coming in 11th out of 23 riders.
The team as a whole would finish in 16th out of 18 teams for the day with only Baker and Lord scoring.
•Season Finals:
Overall, for the season the team as a whole finished ranked 16th out of 22 total teams for the 2016 season.
• Final Standings:
Scott Lord in junior varsity division, finished the season ranked 17th out of 51 riders having raced only three of the four possible races.
Ben Erickson of Norwich finished the season ranked 39th out of 51 riders having only competed in one race.
Noah Marvin in the sophomore division finished the season ranked 30th having only one race under his belt for the year.
Stanton Baker in freshman division finished the season ranked 17th out of 25 riders having raced all four races in 2016.
"It was a great first year for the Chenango Composite team," coach Baker said. "We got to learn the ropes of the NICA racing within the New York League this year, getting our first experience. We went from zero registered NICA riders at the beginning of the year, completing the season with 15 registered riders. We've got bigger goals next year for the team - to get into the Top five in the league and to get #MoreGirlsOnBikes. We want to send out a huge thank you to Chobani for supporting the team. They provided our race nutrition for the team. Also, a huge shout out to the Raymond Corporation - our team registration sponsor."
The team is scheduled to meet next for a league get together to celebrate the end of the 2016 spring season on July 9, in Round Top, New York.
