Hillcrest dominates Hellcats, end winning streak
BINGHAMTON – The Chenango Hellcats Legion team would see their short-lived three game winning streak skid to an abrupt halt following their trip to Chenango Valley high school, where they would suffer a loss at the hands of Post 1194 Hillcrest at 10-0, on July 6.
The Hellcats were hot of a three game stretch where they were looking to turn their season around, however, Hillcrest qualifies as a league game and will now start them out onto a tough schedule looking forward, as The Hellcats will play a game –weather permitting – four times in the next eight days. Notably of those four remaining games on the schedule, three are scheduled as league games, and winning is a must if a post season berth is to happen in the 2016 summer season.
Hellcats head coach was unavailable for comment following the 10-0 loss to Hillcrest.
Hillcrest would allow no breathing room for The Hellcats, as they would successfully score seven runs in just the first inning.
Errors would not contribute a tremendous amount to the outcome of the contest, as to much surprise, The Hellcats would only commit one error compared to Hillcrest's two on the day.
The inter-league game would only last a short five innings, as the second inning would prove to be another tremendous landslide in favor of Hillcrest, as they sent an additional three runners in for a 10-0 lead heading into the third.
Although Hellcat batters would earn bases throughout the game, The Hellcats were unable to muster a run in the span of the game, as they would only see two hits for their batters.
Pitching for The Hellcats was Joe Devona for 1.1 inning, before Johnathan Predmore would step to the mound to pitch for just 2.2 innings. Devona would allow four hits, while also striking out three Hillcrest batters and walking four. Predmore would allow five hits to the opposing team, while fairing slightly better in the walks, as Predmore would only walk one, but record only one strikeout in doing so.
Hillcrest would see their pitcher – Telfer – pitch the entire five inning game, as he recorded five strikeouts, no walks, and only allowed two hits to The Hellcats.
Hellcat batters: Conor Graven-Briggs 1-2, and Cristobal Caballero 1-2.
The Hillcrest batters would combine for a total of 21 at bats, 10 runs, 9 hits, 6 RBI's, 5 walks, and only 4 strikeouts.
Up next for The Hellcats (7-9 overall, 5-5 league) will be once again playing in the Binghamton area on Friday, July 8., when they take on another league opponent Post 1645 Binghamton.
Hellcats: 0 0 0 0 0– 0
Hillcrest: 7 3 0 0 0– 10
