NORWICH – Gregory Frank Huzinec Jr. – the man accused of committing an armed robbery at a residence on Lackawanna Avenue in the City of Norwich on Thursday, July 7 – appeared in court on Tuesday, July 12, in order to see if the matter should be transferred to the Chenango County Court.
Huzinec's application for a public defender was accepted, and he was assigned attorney John Cameron to represent him.
Assistant District Attorney Laura Parker, who appeared on behalf of the people of Chenango County, conveyed that since it has been less than 48 hours since the defendant has been in custody, the people of Chenango County were not yet ready to present a felony case against him.
The people are allowed up to 144 hours after a defendant has been arrested to bring felony charges against them.
The Honorable Judge James E. Downey scheduled the matter for Thursday, July 14, at 10 a.m. He kept bail at the same amount, $25,000 cash, or $50,000 bond.
“(It would be) quite a challenge for Mr. Huzinec to climb over in his circumstances,” said Downey.
