Two sentenced to probation in Chenango County Court

NORWICH – Two individuals were sentenced to probation when the Chenango County Court convened for an afternoon session on Monday, July 25. Chenango County District Attorney Joseph McBride represented the people in both cases, while The Honorable Judge Frank B. Revoir Jr. presided over matters.
• Justin J. Pratt, of Whitney Point, appeared in court with appointed defense attorney John Cameron.
It was alleged that on January 12, 2016, at approximately 4:33 p.m., on County Road 2, in the Town of Smithville, Pratt was operating a motor vehicle with greater than .08 percent of alcohol in his bloodstream, constituting a DWI charge. Pratt was alleged to have been driving his 2001 Chevy Silverado with .14 of one percent of alcohol in his bloodstream, as calculated by chemical analysis of his breath.
In an agreed upon plea deal with the District Attorney's Office, Pratt agreed to enter a plea of guilty to the class E felony of driving while intoxicated. In return, he received a sentence of one-year of interim probation. If Pratt is successful during this year, then the felony charge will be reduced to a misdemeanor, and he will be sentenced to three years of probation, with credit for time served.
Along with his sentence of probation, Pratt will also be subject to the ignition interlock program for one year and his driving privileges will be revoked for a year.
Pratt was previously convicted of misdemeanor DWI in the Triangle Town Court on April 21, 2011.
Judge Revoir told Pratt, “You've been given a great opportunity here. You'll be a better person for it.”
Pratt's sentencing was adjourned until June 30, 2017, at 9:30 a.m.
• Ronald S. Shapiro, of Norwich, appeared in court with his appointed defense attorney John Cameron.
It was alleged that Shapiro violated the terms of his probation agreement when, on January 7, 2016, he failed to register his Facebook account. After he was arrested on January 13, Shapiro also failed to notify his probation officer of the arrest.
Shapiro agreed to enter a plea of guilty to a reduced charge of attempted failure to register as a sex offender, a class A misdemeanor. In return for his plea, Shapiro received a 30 day sentence of incarceration at the Chenango County Correctional Facility, along with two further years of probation.
