Board of Elections seeks poll workers for Election Day

CHENANGO COUNTY – The Chenango County Board of Elections is seeking qualified individuals to lend a helping hand at voting sites across the county this election year.

It takes dozens of poll workers to process the thousands of voters who cast their ballots at the 22 polling sites throughout Chenango County. But having enough poll workers to stay in accordance with election law is a daunting task, said Mary Lou Monahan and Carol Franklin, the Republican and Democratic commissioners at the county Board of Elections.

Each election day is long – 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. for a primary election; and 5 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. or later for a general election. That’s why the Board of Elections is trying to increase their ranks. The goal, said Monahan, is to split the day between two workers.
