Arby’s preps for grand re-opening celebration

NORWICH – Jumping at a chance to showcase major building renovations while also strengthening ties to the local community, Arby’s is planning a grand re-opening celebration at its Norwich location this weekend.
The event will take place from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at Arby’s 6151 State Highway 12 address, just north of the City of Norwich.
“Norwich has always been a very strong supporter of our restaurant, so we wanted a way to thank the community for their support over the years,” said store owner Nicolina Mendolia. “We have lots of customers, many new and many who come in on a regular basis. We wanted to show that we appreciate their business.”
In addition to events scheduled throughout the afternoon – including free face painting and ballons for children, Arby’s logo prizes, free slider sandwiches for the first 100 guests, and a drawing for a 40-inch Samsung Smart television – the event will also feature free sliders to uniformed officers and veterans; and a 50-50 cash raffle where proceeds will benefit Arby’s “No Kid Hungry” campaign.
Moreover, there will be a slider eating contest starring pre-selected public service employees as contestants. They include local veterans, court officials, and members of the Norwich police and fire departments. It’s fun and it’s all for a good cause, Mendolia explained.
“For the person who wins, we will donate $500 to their nonprofit organization of choice,” she said.
This isn’t the first time the Norwich Arby’s has thrown support behind community efforts. The restaurant is a regular sponsor of long-standing community events, including the Gus Macker basketball tournament, the fall Pumpkin Festival, and the Norwich Family YMCA Turkey Trot. What’s more, it regularly donates dry goods and foods to benefit various church and nonprofit fundraisers.
“We do whatever we can to help out. We feel it’s important that we stay involved in the local community, not only to support the causes, but to bring more awareness to what’s going on locally,” Mendolia added. “We’re happy to be a part of it.”
The Norwich Arby’s location recently underwent renovations that transformed the restaurant’s appearance both inside and out. After 25 years in the Norwich community, Mendolia said it was time to update. The project not only brought several construction jobs to the area, but also new jobs in the restaurant in order to accommodate for an increase in sales.
“Renovations have been well received,” said Mendolia. “I want to thank my employees who have been so important during those renovations. With the store under remodel, it was tough; but they worked very hard to keep things going. We’re all very enthusiastic about the grand re-opening, and everyone is invited to join us on Saturday to help us celebrate.”
