Daughters of the American Revolution honor veterans of past
OXFORD – The Go-Won-Go Chapter of the Daughter's of the American Revolution held a ceremony on July 23, at the monument at Fort Hill Park in Oxford, that commemorates 28 veterans of the Revolutionary War who are buried in Oxford. The monument was erected in 1931 by the Go-Won-Go chapter, and the State of New York.
The following is a list of the 28 Revolutionary War veterans who are buried: Major Benjamin Throop, Abraham Hollenbeck, Major Gerrit Van Wagenon, John Holmes, Lieutenant Solomon Fenton, Jared Hinckley, Seargent Major Samuel Stow, Elisha Jewell, Hezekiah Brockett, Israel Jacobs, Henry Balcom, Benaniah Loomis, Dr. Samuel Baldwin, John McFarland, Zaphar Betts, John I. TenBroeck, John Bartle, Dan Throop, Anson Cary, Thomas Vangaasbeck, John Fitch, Asa Wells, Frederick Hopkins, Amos Westcott, Josiah Hackett, Bliss Willoughby, Jesse Hamilton, and James Walker.
