Mid-York Concert Band begins season, new members encouraged to join

NORWICH - Under the direction of Mark D. Sands, the Mid-York Concert Band (MYCB) will begin its second full season this September. Sands says that his goal with the band is to offer a quality ensemble for area band instrumentalists to perform with.
While there are a number of summer bands in our area, the Mid-York Concert Band is the only ensemble in our immediate area that rehearses and performs from the fall through spring months.
At last spring’s concert, forty-four musicians performed. The MYCB is still looking to grow however, and are welcoming all interested wind and percussion musicians to join this year. As stated by Sands, the MYCB has a definite need for oboes, clarinets, bass clarinet, trumpets, French horns and trombones. The band is open to all community members from high school-and-up with a medium advanced capability (NYSSMA level 4) and above. Although the band rehearses and performs in Norwich, many members live in outlying communities. He hopes that area musicians will take the opportunity to check out and join the MYCB.
The Mid-York Concert Band rehearses every other Tuesday from 7:00 to 9:00 in the Norwich Middle School band room. The first rehearsal of the new season will take place on Tuesday September 13, 2016.
