ChaseHealth CNA in New Berlin receives prestigious award
NEW BERLIN – Melanie Hackett, a CNA at the ChaseHealth Rehabilitation and Residential Care facility in New Berlin, was recently the recipient of a prestigious award in the health field.
Hackett was one of 17 CNA's across New York State presented with the LeadingAge New York Long Term Care Employee of Distinction award for 2016. This is the second consecutive year that an employee of the ChaseHealth facility in New Berlin has received the prestigious honor.
Hackett was nominated for the award by her peers, who refer to her as a role-model. Heather Andersen, the Director of Social Services, Marketing and Admissions at the ChaseHealth facility in New Berlin, spoke high praises of the tireless work that Melanie puts in on a daily basis. “I've worked with her for about 17 years now,” said Andersen. “Mel is just all around. The residents come first. She will help any department with anything. Residents know that when Mel is here, they will be taken care of.”
Andersen went on to explain just how much of a positive influence that Hackett is at the facility, “If we have new CNA's, we send them with Mel, because we know they're going to learn the ropes right,” she said. “She (Melanie) cares for and treats the residents like they're family.”
Melanie has been an employee at the ChaseHealth facility in New Berlin for over 22 years, and has no plans of retiring anytime soon. She wants to continue working for at least another seven years. “I'm not ready to go yet. I wouldn't go anywhere else, this is family,” she said.
Hackett remained extremely humble despite achieving the high honor. She said that she was, “Nervous, but honored,” to receive the award. “I think there was many more people deserving of this award that work here than me,” she said.
Melanie said that her favorite part of working at the rehabilitation facility is the residents, “I love them to death, they're awesome. They keep you on your toes, but for the most part it's great to get to know them and their families,” she said. “So many people pass through your life doing this job. You meet some really great people, whether it be the residents or their families.”
Hackett was presented with the award in a special ceremony at the ChaseHealth facility, involving New York State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I – Oneonta), and City of Norwich mayor Christine Carnrike. At the ceremony, Senator Seward said, “Melanie Hackett’s commitment and compassion are among the reasons that ChaseHealth Rehabilitation and Residential Care is a leader in nursing home care. Her dedication to those she cares for at the New Berlin home is clearly evident – good news for her patients and peace of mind for their families who know their loved ones are in trusted hands.”
Along with the special ceremony, Hackett will also be honored at the annual New York State convention of nursing facilities, attended by CEO's from across the State.
