Blackhawks golf earn first win of the season

OXFORD – The Oxford Blackhawks varsity golf team hosted fellow Chenango County team Unadilla Valley in a matchup at Blue Stone Golf Course on Wednesday, August 31.
Coming into the matchup, neither squad had been able to earn a team win on the season, as both teams sat at 0-3. However, after the teams matched up on the front nine holes with a par of 34, it was Oxford who prevailed in earning that first win in 2016 at 231 to 290.
“We got our first one,” said Oxford head coach Mark Muller.
Oxford would also see the team and match low go their way when Dylan Depew emerged as their medalist for the day, shooting a solid 41. Depew's fellow Blackhawk golfer Austin Crawford would slide into a 42 stroke game, while Jacob Marone shot a 46, followed by Corey Turner at 48, and Harry Oliver at 54.
The very young Unadilla Valley team would battle on the day with their medalist emerging as Sam Loeffler at 43. Loeffler was followed next by Andrew Jackson at 50, Brandan Kneale 51, Gavin Church at 71, and Drew Emerich at 75.
Oxford (1-3) will now head down to Genegantslet Golf Course in Greene to matchup against Greene's varsity team at 9 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 1.
Unadilla Valley (0-4) will be home next when they host Delhi on Friday, Sept. 2, at 1:30 p.m.
