Afton man charged with vehicular manslaughter
COLESVILLE – Adam Alexander, 28, of Afton, is facing one count of vehicular manslaughter in the second degree, a class D felony, and one count of driving while intoxicated, a class A misdemeanor, following an investigation into a crash that claimed the life of a Binghamton man.
The Broome County Sheriff's Office alleges that Jason Smith, 36, was killed after Alexander ran a stop sign at the intersection of Route 7 as he was traveling south on Route 235, and subsequently hit the motorcycle that Smith was operating. Smith sustained traumatic injuries in the accident, and was transported to Wilson hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Deputies conducted Standardized Field Sobriety Testing at the scene and placed Alexander under arrest for DWI. A Blood Seizure Order was obtained and executed for Alexander’s blood to determine alcohol content.
