SHERBURNE - On Saturday, Sept. 17 from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m., Schmitt Sisters Leah, Jessie, and Laura will be hosting an exhilarating African master class with world renowned African dancer, choreographer, and drummer, Biboti Ouikahilo. Adults, teens, and kids as young as seven are invited to attend. No experience is necessary, just a willingness to learn and have fun. Space is limited, so please email or message to reserve your spot at SchmittSistersDance@gmail.com or at www.facebook.com/SchmittSistersDance. The cost of the class is $25.
Biboti will share his love, passion and joy for West African dance and drum. Born in the Sinfra Progouri West region of the Ivory Coast, West Africa, Biboti began his professional dance career with the prominent Ivory Coast National Dance Company. After touring throughout the world, the Director of the Ivory Coast National Ballet, Louis Akin, appointed Biboti to be the trainer of all new dancers, resulting in the beginning of his choreographing career. As the founder, producer, choreographer and dancer of Wacheva Dance Company, Biboti began to express his own artistic abilities. Just a few of his accolades include: being a founding member of the Ivory Coast National Dance Company, being a judge for the Vacances Culture and Variotoscope, teaching for six years at the renowned Djoniba Dance and Drum Center, as well as Abizaid Studio and Lehman College, being a lead African drummer for the Jimmy Buffett Summer Tour in 2000-2001, and participating in the Hollywood film “Tears of the Sun,” starring Bruce Willis. In 2009, Biboti and Wacheva opened a dance and drum studio in Syracuse inviting all cultures to come together to share cultural arts with the community.
