Unadilla Valley shows improvement despite loss at home
EDMESTON – The Unadilla Valley golf team has been busy in 2016 as they try to chip away at the notion that they are a young inexperienced team, with a goal of improving each match they are in.
On Friday, Sept. 2, Head coach Carl Convis and his Storm golfers hosted Delhi on the greens of Red Pine Golf Course, in a match that did just that saw improvement despite another team loss.
“We're getting there little bit at a time,” said coach Convis.
The nine hole, par 36 course would see the team win slide in favor of Delhi with a 249, while UV would net a score of 281.
Delhi would see their medalist record the match low on the day when Ben Airhart shot a 39, followed by Max Halbert at 43, Mike Bryden at 47, Sean Karen at 56, and Preston Post at a 64.
UV would see improvement across the board, having a tie for their medalist top spot when Sam Loeffler and Andrew Jackson both shot a 48 for the UV low. Loeffler and Jackson were then followed in scoring by Brandan Kneale at 54, Gavin Church at 62, and Drew Emerich at 69.
“Andrew (Jackson) is a first year guy and he just keeps improving and improving. He really wants to play well and he practices hard. I am looking for good things from him,” said coach Convis of Jackson who is only a sophomore before adding. “Drew (Emerich) is another one, he is a seventh grader. He needs some time and he will start dropping his score. He shows great promise.”
After UV's loss to Delhi (4-1), UV (0-5) then traveled to Greene on Thursday, Sept. 8. The score for that matchup will be reported in a later edition of The Evening Sun.
