SPCA to hold first annual ‘Great Crate Challenge’
NORWICH - The Chenango SPCA (CSPCA) located at 6160 County Road 32 in Norwich will be hosting its first annual ‘Great Crate Challenge’ on Friday, September 30, from noon to 3 p.m.
According to CSPCA Executive Director Annette Clark, every year thousands of animals spend months at a time in kennels or crates waiting to be adopted.
In recognition of this, the CSPCA is asking local animal lovers to spend time in their outdoor kennels as a fundraiser to raise the adoption fee of $150 or more before being released.
The CSPCA will ‘dog-nap’ participants located in Norwich and confine them in their outdoor kennel with Ruffas, the sheriff dog, in the hopes that the participants will have friends and family who will help raise the adoption fee to get them out.
If interested parties are unable to come to the shelter for the event, the CSPCA will go to participants and present them with a collar that says ‘Please adopt me’ which will turn to ‘I’ve been adopted at the ‘Great Crate Challenge’ once the adoption fee has been raised. The person who raises the most money at the ‘Great Crate Challenge’ will be awarded a dinner for two.
The CSPCA is an open-admission animal shelter that provides care for lost and homeless pets before adopting those pets to new homes. They also strive to educate families and the community about the needs of companion animals. CSPCA serves primarily the residents and animals of Chenango County and the surrounding communities.
If you are interested in having someone ‘dog or cat-napped,’ contact the CSPCA at (607) 334-9724 ext. 6, or information can be found on their website www.chenangospca.org.
