Mistake riddled UV offers little opposition for the Bulldogs

DELHI – The Unadilla Valley Storm varsity football team took the field on Friday, Sept. 9, in what proved to be a big loss on the season, losing to Delhi-Charlotte Valley 26-6.
The Storm would undoubtedly come out swinging right out of the gates, scoring first in the contest, off a five yard run from Caleb Simmons, with 4:30 left in the first quarter to take the lead at 6-0, which was followed by a failed two point conversion run.
The promising look of the game early on for UV was quickly turned around as Delhi-Charlotte Valley would go on to score 26 unanswered points – two in the first half and 24 in second half of play.
Delhi-Charlotte Valley would see dominate play on the defensive end in the first half as Alex Gray recorded a safety with 6:30 left in the second quarter.
Still on top 6-2 at the half, UV was unable to muster an answer on the offensive or defense end when they emerged after half-time.
Early in the third quarter Erik Gullow of Delhi-Charlotte Valley ripped off a 40 yard run for a touchdown to fully open the flood gates on the Storm, two-point conversion run was good.
Gullow would lead his team in rushing carrying the ball 18 times for an even 100 yards with a touchdown. However, Delhi-Charlotte Valley's defense was not to be forgotten as this time Christian Aloisio would rush in with 5:17 left in the third quarter for the second safety of the game for the Bulldogs as they then extended their lead to a solid 12-6 lead.
The Bulldog's quarterback, Ben Branigan would look to have his name known when he proceeded to cap the game off with a 20 yard rushing touchdown to end the third quarter, before he would connect with his receiver Will Branigan for the final score of the game. A two-point conversion pass was successful following the Branigan to Branigan touchdown late in the game.
Ultimately on the day, it was mistakes on the UV side which would contribute to the unraveling loss. As they would toss up an interception and hand over a fumble to the Bulldogs, while also combining as a team for 80 penalty yards off eight penalties in the contest.
The silver lining in the loss for the Storm was once again their rushing attack which combined for a competent 37 for 165 yards – Caleb Simmons lead the attack going 16 for 79 yards and a touchdown, followed by Payton Stirone who went 11 for 47 yards, and Dante Dye who went 8 for 29 yards.
Unadilla Valley (0-2) will now head to Deposit/Hancock for a Saturday showdown on Sept. 17, at 1:30 p.m.
