Golf round-up

CHENANGO COUNTY – Golf matches were abundant on Thursday, Sept. 15, as Norwich traveled to play Johnson City, Oxford traveled to play Sidney, and Unadilla Valley traveled to play Harpursville-Afton.
• Norwich would earn the 213 to 222 win over the Wildcats, as they played their match at Endwell Greens, a par 36 course.
The medalist for the Tornado in the contest, and low score from either team was Brenon Maynard who shot just two over par at 38. Maynard was followed by Alex Gage at 41, Nate Scheer at 42, Ryan Johnson at 43, Griffin Clipston at 49 and AJ Little at 53.
On the Wildcats side, their medalist in the match was Tyler Shuba who shot a team low 41, followed by Sam Shattuck at 43, Darren Jahelka at 44, and a three-way tie at 47 between Kevin Wu, Jake Carpenter, and Dylan Richards.
Norwich (3-1 league) will travel back down Route 12, to take on Chenango Valley on Tuesday, Sept. 20.
• Oxford would travel over the hill to play powerhouse Sidney, in what proved to be a mix-match in skill, when Sidney defeated the Blackhawks 198 to 255.
“My kids are playing real good,” said Mike Brazee head coach of Sidney who are now 9-0.
The match would be played at the Sidney Country Club, seeing Trenton Stillman and Justin McMillan tie for the low for both teams as well as the medalist spot for Sidney, both getting a 38. This was followed by Kyle Smith at 40, Trevor Dutton at 41, and Steven Smith at 41.
Oxford would name Austin Crawford and Harry Oliver their low score and medalists when both shot a 49, followed by Jason Davis at 50, Dylan Depew also at 50, and Garrett Depew at 57.
Sidney (9-0) will host Greene at the Sidney Country Club later on today, Sept. 16, while Oxford (4-5) will head to Unadilla Valley on Sept. 16.
• Unadilla Valley would travel to play Harpursville-Afton at the Belden Hills Golf Course, on the back nine holes with a par 34. This would result in a Harpursville-Afton win with a 208 compared to UV's 256.
For Harp-Afton their medalist would be JT Havens with a 34, then Colin LaDue with a 37, Logan Culver at 41, Mike Bennett 47, and Jacob Peterson with a 49.
For UV Brandan Kneale would earn the medalist spot with a 47, followed by Gavin Church at 48, then Andrew Jackson at 50, Sam Loeffler at 53, and Drew Emrich at 58.
“These guys all shot better than they have in a long time which is nice, just not enough,” said UV head coach Carl Convis.
Up next for Unadilla Valley (1-8) following the loss to Harpursville-Afton(6-3), they will host Oxford (4-5) on their home course of Red Pines on Sept. 16, at 3:45 p.m.
