Blue Devils cant withstand the Purple Tornado
NORWICH – The varsity volleyball team of Norwich put on a show for their home crowd on Sept. 15, when they played host to the Blue Devils of Chenango Forks.
Norwich would sweep their competition, as they would win 3-0 over the Blue Devils improving their record and starting the season 1-0 on their home court.
The Tornado would see little competition in the first set as they dominated Chenango Forks 25-9, before snapping two more closer wins at 25-19, and 25-12.
“This was a game where everyone had a chance to play. It was the first home game of the season. Our fan section did a super great job cheering for us tonight. It was electrifying,” said Norwich head coach Shelly Alger. “Norwich played Chenango Forks tonight. Our bench played as well as our starters. We had great serving, played their attack well and had 24 kills. Girls had a great night.”
Leading the charge once again for the Tornado was Meghan Komendarek, who tallied up five aces, 12 kills and four blocks in the win. Leahanne Humphrey and Riley Strong would each earn five assists followed by Kara Evans wit one ace and six kills, Kalie Binelli with three kills and one dig, Ripley Strong with two assists and one dig and Alexis Taylor with three kills and two digs.
On the Blue Devils side, Lyndsey Stone would have five kills, followed by Holly Hunink with one ace and two blocks, Makayla Rinker with four assists, Lyndsey Stone with two blocks, and Jordan Jones with four digs.
After earning their home opener over Chenango Forks (0-4) Norwich (3-1) will be on the road next as they will travel to Susquehanna Valley on Tuesday, Sept. 20.
