NORWICH – Norwich Pharmaceuticals played its part in giving back to the community on Friday, September 16, as part of the annual Alvogen Day Community Clean-up.
Alvogen is the parent company of Norwich Pharmaceuticals, a corporation located in 35 countries with about 2,300 employees globally.
Every September, the employees of Alvogen take part in a community clean-up project. This is Norwich Pharmaceuticals fourth year participating in Alvogen Day.
“Alvogen Day is about giving back to the communities that we're in,” said Luke Murphy, Manager of Alvogen Human Resources. “We had 20 projects this year we were working on, whether it be landscaping, washing windows, cleaning inside of organizations, painting, rebuilding.”
Norwich Pharmaceuticals had 285 employees volunteer at this year's Alvogen Day, where they did philanthropic work at establishments such as the Place, the YMCA, the Council of the Arts, and various public parking lots around the city. They also lent a helping hand in North Norwich, working on the town's pavilion.
Alvogen partnered with B.I.D. Executive Director Ann Coe, as well as North Norwich Town Board member Penny Fitzpatrick in order to plan the day's work.
This year's Alvogen Day theme chosen by their corporate headquarters in Iceland was 'Fun, fun, fun,' a motto that was spelled out on their t-shirts to promote unity.
Alvogen's Vice President of Operations Charlie Andrews spoke to kick-off the event, as well as President and CEO of Commerce Chenango, Steve Craig.
“We want to express our sincerest appreciation to all the organizations that allow us to come out,” said Murphy. “It was a great day, we want to thank the city of Norwich and the Town of North Norwich and the communities for having us.”
