95th annual Harvest Dinner held by Columbus Community Church
COLUMBUS – 95 years ago in the township of Columbus, the Columbus Community Church (CCC) was formed. Not too long after the church was organized, the ladies of the parish created the Columbus Ladies Aid. The Columbus Ladies Aid’s first fundraising effort was called the ‘Harvest Dinner,’ and the annual event continues to this day.
On Thursday, October 6, members and supporters of CCC’s ‘Good Neighbors’ will be serving the 95th annual Harvest Dinner. The main fare will be roast beef, as well as a selection of food from a buffet and salad bar.
The dinner will be served in two servings: 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. and will take place at The Whitney House located at 4311 State Highway 80 in the Town of Columbus. Ticket prices are $10 for adults, and $5 for children ages six – 12. Children five and under are free. Take-outs will be available for $10 per meal, and reservations for take-out can be made by calling 607-846-8600.
The annual dinner is in memory of Margaret A. Foster, who served as the dinner chairperson and cook for more than 15 years. Foster passed away in February 2016.
This year’s chef will be Joseph Taranto, a graduate of the American Culinary Institute, with the help of many volunteers.
Reverend Stephen L. Reese has been the pastor of the parish since 1980. Rev, Reese says that more than 800 diners attend the event with many people travelling from over fifty miles away, often exclaiming ‘We’ll be back next year.’
Profits from the Harvest Dinner will go toward the many projects that CCC’s ‘Good Neighbors’ provide for the community and parish throughout the year.
