Tornado girls soccer drops two games leading up to senior night

NORWICH – The Norwich varsity girls soccer team would earn a rest this past weekend following a tough fought game against the Saints of Seton Catholic on Saturday, Sept. 17.
Seton would put Norwich's Saige Benedict to work as they rained 38 shots at the Norwich goalkeeper. Benedict would save 19 of the shots, however, the Tornado offense was nonexistent for the entire game recording no shots on the Seton goal.
Scoring for Seton was Emily Purtell (unassisted), Kristen Fischer (assisted by Daniella Ricci), and Kristen Fischer (assisted by Serena Gay).
However, the short break following the 3-0 loss to Seton would be just that, short-lived, as Norwich would turn right round for a home matchup against rival Oneonta on Monday, Sept. 19.
Much like the Saints and Tornado matchup over the weekend, it was the offense that struggled again for Norwich as they failed to produced any goals off their three shots, while Oneonta would secure three goals off their 13 shots.
Oneonta would see scores from: Erin Stalder (unassisted), Jordan Gaisford (assisted by Hannah Johnson), and Mia Obergefell (assisted by Dani Basdekis).
Benedict would again be in the net for the Tornado recording four saves on the day, while the Yellowjacket goalkeeper would save two. Norwich would see no corners, while Oneonta would rack up 10 on the day.
Next up for Norwich (1-5-1) they will be honoring their seniors with a home match against Owego on Wednesday, Sept. 21. The game is slated to begin under the lights of the Norwich turf field, following the senior and parent presentation at 6:30 p.m.
