Unadilla Valley needs overtime to gain the win over Vikings

UNADILLA – The Unadilla Valley Storm varsity boys soccer team narrowly escaped with a win on Sept. 15, when they played Otselic Valley for the second time in 2016.
Coming off a overtime victory over the Vikings of OV on Sept. 8, when they won 3-2; UV would use overtime again to edge the Vikings, this time winning 2-1.
After a 0-0 first half, Unadilla Valley would record the first goal of the game just :30 seconds into the second half with a lightning quick strike from Alex Taylor. It was in fact Than Garry who would bring the ball down the outside before sending it across to Taylor who one-timed a shot into the back of the net.
The 1-0 lead would remain in favor of the Storm until OVs James Ossant scored the equalizing goal from in close with just 13 minutes left in regulation, tying the game at 1-1, where it would remain until overtime.
“OV almost took home the victory when Garry errently headed a corner kick back at the UV goal, but quick reactions from Adam Lamont (UV goalkeeper with four saves) stopped the ball from crossing the half,” said UV head coach Ryan Houck.
Unadilla Valley would waste no time with their offensive game plan heading into overtime, scoring quickly off a Cameron Osborne to Dylan Nichols goal for the second overtime win over Otselic Valley.
“The Storm surged forward, taking three shots in under three minutes and eventually scoring on an assist from Cameron Osborne to Dylan Nichols,” said coach Houck. “We designed a play during the break between the second half and overtime, when we had the opportunity to run it, we did exactly as discussed and ended up scoring off of it.”
Depsite the close score throughout it was UV who would record 14 shots and six corners compared to a more conservative five shots and two corners from Otselic Valley.
In goal for Ov was Carter Rood who notched up his play to save 10 shots from the UV strikers.
Unadilla Valley played Walton the following day, Sept. 16, in MAC league game, followed by their next game which will be played at home against Milford, on Wednesday, Sept. 21. The game is set to begin at 4:30 p.m. tentatively.
