Komendarek dominates to help carry Norwich to a win

CONKLIN – The Tornado have returned to the court for another win, however, this time they would earn said win on the road against the Susquehanna Valley Sabers.
Despite a rocky start which saw the Sabers and Norwich battle it out in the first set – Norwich ultimately winning 25-23 – Norwich would emerge as the dominate team as they would drop no sets on the road en route to another 3-0 victory.
“We got off to an extremely slow start. The girls realized they had to play consistent in the next sets, which they did. They turned things around,” said Norwich head coach Shelly Alger.
Norwich would indeed turn their play around to wipe the court with the Sabers winning 25-9, and 25-14 to close out the road win.
Senior Meghan Komendarek would record a mark in each major category on the day with one assist, dig and block, and two aces. However, Komendarek would make her presence known with her 15 kills in the game.
Jazmin Rodriguez would record two kills and three digs, Riley Strong had one ace and three assists, Kara Evans would have two kills and one block, Kalie Binelli would have two kills and six digs. This was followed up with a four ace, one kill performance from Alexis Taylor, and a two ace, one dig game from Ripley Strong. Leahanne Humphrey would earn her stripes with six assists in the win.
Up next for Norwich (4-1) they will enjoy a one day break from action before they return to the court to host Johnson City on Thursday, Sept. 22.
No statistics were provided on Susquehanna Valley. While SV would earn the win on the junior varsity side at 2-0.
