S-E boys suffer consecutive losses
SHERBURNE – The Sherburne-Earlville varsity boy's soccer team suffered two defeats last week, plunging their record to 1-4 on the season.
In the Marauder's game against Waterville on Sept. 13, Brandon English's two goals led the way for the opponents, as they defeated S-E on a scoreline of 3-0. Zach Beach's goal built on the lead for the visitors, as goalkeeper Keith Prindle preserved the shutout by making five saves for Waterville.
Waterville finished the game with 11 shots on target, in comparison to just five for the Marauders. Keeper for S-E, Thad Karaman, had eight saves for his side in the loss.
Speaking after the defeat, S-E Head Coach, Mike Rodriguez, said, “(The team) continues to struggle due to youth, inconsistency on offense, and defensive miscues.” He also said that he believes patience is what is needed most, as the team has demonstrated stretches of good play, but it either fails to capitalize on what is built, or fails to communicate, leading to mistakes.
In their next match-up, against defending Center State Conference Division I Champions Holland-Patent, the Marauders fell to a five-goal defeat. Senior Conor Lynsky led the way for the Golden Knights with two goals.
The Marauders had a tough time containing Holland-Patents offense during the first half, and went at the half-time interval trailing 4-0. However, they learned from their first half miscues and did a much better job containing the Holland-Patent attack in the second half, limiting the powerful offense to just one goal.
Holland-Patent finished the game notching 13 shots in target, while their stout defense proved resilient, holding S-E to no shots on the goal. S-E keeper Thad Karaman once again had eight saves for his side in the loss.
