NORWICH – The Norwich varsity girls soccer team played host to Owego on Sept. 21, as they held their senior recognition night on the NHS turf field.
Prior to the start of the matchup, Norwich recognized their five graduating seniors: number 3, Hunter Hagenbuch; number 23, Hunter Cole; number 9, Lexi Llewellyn; number 10, Kate Dowdall; and number 15, Gabby Mirabito. Each of the seniors were given flowers and met by their parents on the field.
Despite the celebration, the game would ultimately go in favor of Owego, even with a goal from Norwich's Taylor Hansen –which was assisted by Hannah Klockowski– Owego would dominate the shots column putting up 14 shots on goal to Norwich's two.
Norwich's goalkeeper Saige Benedict would record 10 saves in the loss, while the Owego goalkeeper would have none.
Scoring for Owego was Zoie Malton with one goal assisted by Julia Sarrge, Anna Felice with one goal assisted again by Julia Sarrge, and two unassisted goals from Lauren Wilson.
Up next for Norwich (1-6-1) they will have a break in action until Monday, Sept. 26, when they will host Chenango Forks at 4:30 p.m. at the NHS turf.
