Norwich tennis sweeps the Black Knights
WINDSOR – The Norwich girls varsity tennis team came home with yet another in 2016, after shutting out Windsor on their home courts, for a dominating 7-0 win.
Each of Norwich's five wins on the day – two forfeits – would come in straight sets for the Tornado girls.
Makenzie Maynard saw the win for Norwich at first singles when she defeated Julie Nemcek of Windsor 6-4 and 6-2. Caroline Stewart would receive a forfeit at second singles.
At third singles, Samantha Gage would get the win for Norwich with a 6-3, and 6-1 win over Windsor's Adriana Kabat. Cierra Sherman would complete the sweep of the singles with her dominating performance as she sailed to a 6-0, and 6-0 shutout of Madelynn Williams.
Norwich first doubles duo of Megan Burke and Brooke Steigerwald would see a 6-3 and 6-0 win go their way when they defeated Windsor's Camryn Mawhiney and Jenna Murdock.
Second singles would prove no different for Norwich as they successfully completed the sweep, essentially, with a 6-2, and 6-0 victory for Ava Granquist and Riley Marsh who defeated Carley Duell and Erin Bentley.
Third singles Logan Fredenburg and Natalie Bennati of Norwich would receive the second forfeit on the day.
Norwich (8-1 overall, 5-0 league) will be looking for another win later on on Monday, Sept 26, as due to a rescheduling Windsor will be visiting Norwich. The rematch is set to begin later on today at the NHS tennis courts at 4:30 p.m.
