Unadilla Valley golf finishes season off on top
EDMESTON – The young Unadilla Valley varsity golf team would not enjoy many wins in their 2016 season, yet were however able to manage two wins over Greene.
The Storm was closing in on their home stretch of the season, as they just recently were coming off a tough loss at home, on the greens of Red Pine Golf Course, where Harpursville would win 253 to 315.
In that matchup on Friday, Sept 23, UV would see their medalist spot go to Sam Loeffler who shot a team low 51, followed by Andrew Jackson at 52, Gavin Church at 56, Shalee Sullivan at 77, and Brayden White at 79.
Hot off this disappointing loss, UV would return to their home course for one last time in 2016 when they hosted Greene on Monday, Sept. 26.
Just like the time prior, UV would earn the win over Greene, this time at 257 to 286.
Sam Loeffler would again be named the medalist for the Storm with his 43 stroke performance to help list UV to their second win of the season. Loeffler would be followed in the individual standings by Brandan Kneale and Andrew Jackson at 51, Gavin Church at 53, and Drew Emrich at 59.
In the loss for Greene their medalist was Wyatt Harrison at 46. Harrison was followed by Derek Heister at 54, Logan Pixsley at 58, Steven Mills at 64, and Garret Anders at 64.
Unadilla Valley (2-12) has now concluded their 2016 fall high school campaign with this final win.
“The kids have fought through a tough young year, and we made some improvements. But we are looking to be quiet a bit better next year,” said Unadilla Valley head coach Carl Convis. “We're a young team that is improving and excited about playing. They all have a pretty good head on their shoulders, as far as handling the game. We have time, time is on our side, and we have a couple new players coming up for next season.”
