Norwich golfers down three Binghamton schools en route to 8-1 record

NORWICH – In a string of three home matches the Norwich varsity golf team has improved to an impressive 8-1 on their season after downing Owego on Sept. 22, Chenango Valley on Sept 26, and Susquehanna Valley on Sept. 27.

With each win in 2016 Norwich has truly proven their dominance in their STAC league.

Each of the last three matches was played in Norwich at the Canasawacta Country Club, with a par 36. A course that the Tornado golfers are all too familiar with helped lead 13 stroke win over Owego to start the three match run.

Norwich would see a tie at the medalist spot as Brenon Maynard and Alex Gage would both record a 41, followed by Ryan Johnson with a 42, Nate Scheer with a 45, AJ Little with a 48, and Griffon Clipston with a 55 for their team score of 217.

In the loss Owego would score a 230, led by their medalist Joe Walter at 42, Eliot Mead at 44, Nick Purtell and Nolan Rezmerski at 46, Zach Martinez at 52, and Nolan Tofte at 53.

Following the weekend break, Norwich would honor their three graduating seniors: Ryan Johnson, Nate Scheer, and Brenon Maynard, with a match against Chenango Valley on Monday, Sept. 26.

Ryan Johnson would shoot par on the day, recording a 36 on the day to lead both teams with his low. Johnson was followed by Alex Gage at 41, senior Brenon Maynard at 42, senior Nate Scheer at 44, Griffon Clipston at 51, and AJ Little at 58 for a team score of 218.
