Tornado swimmers defeat Greene

GREENE – The Norwich girls varsity swim team traveled to Greene high school to take on the lady Trojans this past Wednesday, Sept. 28, emerging with a landslide 113-57 win on the road.
Impressively on the day, Norwich claimed the top spot in 10 of the 11 events in the meet.
• Norwich's first win came in the very first event – 200 yard medley relay – where the team of Melissa Stroh, Kaitlyn Blaisure, Maya Blaisure, and Emma Blenis won with a time of 2:14.80. In second Norwich saw Lauren Llewellyn, Ashton Wenzel, Emerson Burton, and Riley Revoir finish with a 2:17.95. While Greene's relay of Kelly Darling, Amy Bentley, Ciara Gunderson, and Ella Prindle finished with a 2:44.09.
• The top two spots in the 200 freestyle – second event in the meet – went to Norwich as Margie Winter finished with 2:19.39 in first place; while Alison Porack finished in second with a 2:36.28. In third Green had Baileigh Estabrook finish with a 2:54.04.
• Norwich's Lauren Llewellyn claimed the top spot in the third event – 200 yard individual medley – with her time of 2:56.30. Llewelyn was followed by Emma Blenis of Norwich with second place time of 3:04.43. Green once again claimed third with Kiersten Frair's time of 3:07.28.
• The fourth event – 50 yard freestyle – had a Norwich winner with a second and third place finisher from Greene. Maya Blaisure finished in first with 27.47, followed by Greene's Kailey Yanusas with a close 27.80, and Katie Delgado in third with a 28.40.
• The 100 yard butterfly, the fifth event was claimed by Norwich with a Emerson Burton win with a time of 1:26.08, followed by Ciara Gunderson of Greene at 1:30.11, and Emma Blenis of Norwich in third with a 1:34.12.
• Margie Winter of Norwich edged out the lady Trojan's Ella Prindle in the sixth event – 100 yard freestyle – when Winter finished at 1:01.81 to Prindle's 1:01.92. In third place Greene had Kailey Yanusas finish with 1:04.10.
• Norwich's Kaitlyn Blaisure continued the Norwich trend of first place finishes when she recorded the top time in the seventh event – 500 yard freestyle – with her time of 6:37.13. Norwich would sweep the top three spots in the event with Alison Porack finishing in second with a time of 6:53.82, and Melissa Stroh in third with a time of 6:57.55.
• It was the eighth event swam that finally saw the lady Trojans take the top spot from the Tornado, when the relay of Kiersten Frair, Nicole Flohr, Katie Delgado, and Kailey Yanusas finished in first place in the 200 yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:57.10. This was followed by Norwich's relay of Emerson Burton, Jazmine Potter, Riley Revoir, and Margie Winter who had a time of 2:05.51; and another Greene relay team consisting of Amy Bentley, Renee Clark, Ciara Gunderson, and Baileigh Estabrook who claimed third with a time of 2:24.52.
• In the ninth event – 100 yard backstroke – Norwich returned to the top spot when Maya Blaisure finished with a time of 1:11.64, followed by Greene's Nicole Flohr at 1:14.80 for second, and Norwich's Ashton Wenzel taking third with a time of 1:19.39.
• Riley Revoir stepped up for the win in the 10th event – 100 yard breaststroke – with her winning time for Norwich coming at 1:26.51. Revoir was followed in second by her fellow teammate Kaitlyn Blaisure who had a time of 1:27.53. In third Norwich had Emerson Burton finish with a 1:30.19.
• And in the final event of the evening – 400 yard freestyle relay – the team of Margie Winter, Alison Porack, Lauren Llewellyn, and Kaitlyn Blaisure claimed the top spot for Norwich with a first place time of 4:30.56. In second for Norwich was Maya Blaisure, Emma Blenis, Melissa Stroh, and Riley Revoir with their time of 4:39.24. Greene would take third in the event as Jenna Keathly, Ciara Gunderson, Kelly Darling, and Ella Prindle teamed up for a time of 5:41.72.
Following the win Norwich will enjoy a long break from action as they return to practice until they take to the road to face Oneonta on Friday, Oct. 14 at 5:30 p.m. Following the loss to Norwich, Greene (0-4) will have little downtime, as they return to their home waters for a Monday, Oct. 3, matchup against Whitney Point, at 5:30 p.m.
