Lady Trojans earn first win in 2016

GREENE – Greene's girls varsity program fulfilled a season's long goal with their hard fought, long awaited first win on the season, when they defeated Oxford on Sept. 28, at home with a score of 2-0.
In a hard fought dragged out game, Greene would take the 1-0 lead heading into the half over Oxford when eighth grader Jenna Albin took an assist from Nicole Repp, finding the back of the net for her first varsity goal.
This 1-0 lead would be carried over into the second half, where Greene senior Kayla Page also snagged an assist from Repp, for a strike just :39 seconds into the second half of play. From there on out, with 2-0 lead it was a game of defense for Greene as they held off a late push by the Blackhawks as time winded down.
“We played a great game. They finally executed everything we have been working on all season so that was nice for them,” said Greene head coach Irene DeJager.
In the win, Greene enjoyed an 11 shot offensive showing with one corner, while Oxford would suffer through the loss on the road with a six shot performance and three corner kicks to their credit.
In goal for Greene was Katelyn Pratt who recorded all six saves, while Oxford's goalkeeper Alexis Kohlhepp saved six as well.
Greene now stays home for their next matchup against Unadilla Valley on Monday, Oct 3, at 5 p.m.; while Oxford coming off a loss to UV on Sept. 30, will play next against Bainbridge-Guilford on Tuesday, Oct. 4, at 6 p.m.
