Reeling UV falls victim to the lady Blackhawks
OXFORD – After a devastating loss to Bainbridge-Guilford's still undefeated volleyball team, Unadilla Valley was looking to rebound in a match with Oxford on Sept. 29 – a match which ultimately saw UV squander an early 2-0 set lead, losing to Oxford at 3-2.
Previously undefeated Unadilla Valley dropped their second match of the season, in as many days – following a 3-0 loss to B-G on Sept. 28.
The Oxford ladies valiantly dug themselves out of an early 2-0 deficit, as UV came on strong with wins in the first sets at 25-23, and 25-21.
The momentum in the game shifted dramatically in favor of the home team, as Oxford reversed the second set score clinging to a 25-21 win, raising the match score to 2-1.
With the shutout gone, but the game still in reach, Unadilla Valley gave up their second set in a row to Oxford at a remarkable 25-17, as Oxford now poised themselves for the upset win taking the match to 2-2.
With the game on the line, the lady Blackhawks fought to the end against the strong fifth set performance from UV – however, Oxford prevailed in set with a tight finish at 25-23.
In the win for Oxford they saw many standouts: Raigen Ehly rack up seven aces, seven kills and five digs; followed by Allison Beckwith with four aces, eight kills, four blocks, and 12 digs; Andrea Dempsey nabbed three aces, three kills, three assists; Indaria Quintana had two kills, and 10 digs, with Lacey Hathaway and Taylor Munson each having five digs a piece.
In the loss, Unadilla Valley standouts were: Sara Nogaret had seven aces with nine kills; Bailey Miller grabbed six aces with 11 kills and one block; Tia Peck had six aces; Megan Carpenter had 14 assists, with Erin Kelly and Sierra Scrag each having one assist a piece.
Oxford (6-1) will now have another big challenge ahead of them, as they will face undefeated Bainbridge-Guilford next on Oct. 7, at B-G. Unadilla Valley (7-2) enjoyed a weekend of rest before they once again hit the road on Tuesday, Oct. 4, when they face off against Harpursville.
