Norwich golf downs the Saints, prepares for Class B Championships

NORWICH – The Norwich varsity golf team once again defended their home course, tacking on yet another win at the Canasawacta Country Club in 2016, as they defeated Seton Catholic Central 194-216.
The 36 par course at the CCC was maneuvered by the Tornado and Saints golfers on the day, Oct. 3, as Norwich now moves their overall league record to 11-1 following the win.
Leading Norwich in their win, was medalist Nate Scheer who shot a match and team low with a par of 36. Scheer was followed by Ryan Johnson and Alex Gage who each landed at a 37 stroke count, followed by Brenon Maynard who managed a 39, Griffon Clipston who shot a 45, and AJ Little who rounded out the Tornado with a 49.
Leading the Saints of Seton Catholic were two golfers who tied for the medalist spot at 40 strokes – Tommy Davis and Andre Haykal. Following their medalist performance was Brendan Burtis with a 41, Michael Bucko with a 46, Ryan Woodruff with a 49, and Liam Burtis with a 52.
Norwich (11-1 league) will now mentally prepare for a big day later on today, Oct. 4, as they will head to Apalachin to play on The Links of Hiawatha Landing, for the Class B Championships in varsity golf. The championships are set to begin bright and early at 8:30 a.m.
