Heart wrenching overtime loss on senior night

OXFORD – The lady Blackhawks soccer team hosted the Unadilla Valley Storm in a non-league matchup on Sept. 30, which following overtime, would end in a UV win at 4-2.
Prior to the game beginning, Oxford held a senior recognition ceremony for their four graduating seniors: Kylie Roys, Dallas Beang, Gabby Martinez, and Katelyn Diamond.
Opening the game up, and scoring first in the game was Amelia Wakefield of Oxford, giving her team 1-0 lead with her strike with 32:34 left in the first half – goal was assisted by Emily Barrows.
Knotting the game up before the half was Cearah DeCostaFaro of UV, when she found the back of the net for the equalizer.
Following the halftime break, it was Julia Oglesby who ripped into the Oxford defense with an unassisted goal just 1:30 into the second half, then again for the go-ahead score a minute later.
Up 2-1, Wakefield of Oxford again stepped up for her team, this time with an unassisted goal to draw the game to a tie once again.
The game would end regulation time with 2-2 tie, only to see Oglesby record her third goal, grabbing the hat-trick, with a direct kick just 1:04 into the first overtime period.
UV pulled away in overtime for the 4-2 win, on Oxford's senior recognition night. In the win, Unadilla Valley had 19 shots on goal and one corner. While Oxford in the loss had 11 shots on goal and one corner.
Scoring for UV: Julia Oglesby with three goals, and Cearah DeCostaFaro with one goal. Scoring for Oxford: Amelia Wakefield with two goals, and Emily Barrows with one assist.
Oxford (1-7 league, 3-9 overall) enjoyed one day off on Monday, before they return to action later on today, on Tuesday, Oct. 4, when they travel to Bainbridge-Guilford. Unadilla Valley will play on the road at Greene on Monday, Oct. 3, before they are once again home on Oct. 4, when they host Sidney at 6:30 p.m.
