Sublime art and antiques on show in Columbus this Saturday
COLUMBUS - The historic train depot, donated to the Town of Columbus in 2011 by Chobani, is the setting for Linda Foote’s vibrant quilting exhibit. Set to be unveiled Saturday, Oct. 8, at Columbus Days in Norton Park, Foote’s art looms large as you walk into the meeting space. Her use of pattern and color, eye-catching anywhere, is set off by the tall unfinished walls in the former South Edmeston icon.
Foote, who learned much about quilting from the late Eleanor Homann of Columbus, said those lessons stay with her today.
“She is one one who got me started,” said Foote, one of two artists to grace this year’s festival.
Metal Sculptor Jason Schultz, of Albany, will be set up in the park gazebo, showing how he fashions former tools and machines, items you might find around the farm, into objects of whimsical beauty.
Arts and crafts, local products, and lots of good food from the Park kitchen will be arranged on one side of the park, while across the way antique tractors, cherished and polished, vie in the annual tractor pull, operated by Johnson Farms.
Everyone is invited and encouraged to attend the Columbus Day festivities in Columbus this Saturday. Admission is free, and the event runs from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.
