Lady Trojan swimmers earn first win on the year
GREENE – The lady Trojan varsity swimming and diving team etched out their first win in 2016, when they defeated Whitney Point this past Monday, Oct. 3, with a 97-55 victory at home.
Greene secured five overall individual wins out of the possible 11 events, as they used their superb depth to overcome Whitney Point.
• 200 yard Medley Relay: Whitney Point took first with their relay team – Emily Woughter, MJ Peterson, Tori Slack, and Makayla Carter with a time of 2:26.02; besting the relay team from Greene – Maggie Roosa, Amy Bentley, Ciara Gunderson, and Ella Prindle – who managed a time of 2:37.77.
• 200 Freestyle: Nicole Flohr of Greene claimed the lady Trojans first overall win with her time in the event of 2:23.42. Flohr was followed by teammate Baileigh Estabrook with a time of 2:53.04; and Emily Woughter of Whitney Point with a 2:53.68.
• 200 yard Individual Medley: Whitney Point's ToriSlack walked away with an individual win in the event with her time of 2:40.99. Slack was followed by Kiersten Frair of Greene in second with her time of 3:08.14; and Amy Bentley, also of Greene, with a 3:24.49.
• 50 yard Freestyle: Katie Delgado of Greene claimed the race at this event with her time of 28.46. Delgado was followed closely by Makayla Carter and Abigail Somers of Whitney Point, who finished in second and third respectively with times of 29.61, and 32.93.
• 100 yard Butterfly: Whitney Point's Makayla Carter took the win at this event when she cruised to the win with her time of 1:26.90. This bested the second place finisher, Ciara Gunderson of Greene, who finished with a 1:28.02; followed by Ella Prindle of Greene in third with a 1:47.60.
• 100 yard Freestyle: Tori Slack once again took home a win for Whitney Point with her 1:04.04 performance in the event. Slack would easily glide to a win over second place from Greene, Kelly Darling who had a time of 1:18.58; followed by third place swimmer from Greene, Renee Clark with a time of 1:27.68.
• 500 yard Freestyle: Abigail Somers of Whitney Point grabbed another win with her time of 7:03.89, followed by Whitney Point's MJ Peterson with a time of 7:05.75. Greene's Baileigh Estabrook claimed third with her time of a 8:09.47.
• 200 yard Freestyle Relay: The quartet of Nicole Flohr, Kiersten Frair, Kelly Darling, and katie Delgado snagged another with for the Trojans with their time of 2:04.47 in the event. Whitney Point's team – Tori Slack, Makayla Carter Abigail Somers, and MJ Peterson – took home second in the event with their time of 1:11.44. The Trojans claimed third in the event as well – Renee Clark, Danica Blasko, Ciara Gunderson, and Ella Prindle – when they swam a time of 2:48.12.
• 100 yard Backstroke: Nicole Flohr came up big in this event for Greene when she took first with her time of 1:13.25. Flohr was followed by her teammate Kelly Darling who took second with her time of 1:26.22. In third, Greene also saw Maggie Roosa earn the spot with her time of 1:30.61.
• 100 yard Breaststroke: Whitney Point's MJ Peterson won the top spot in the event with her time of 1:38.39. Peterson was followed by Greene's Kiersten Frair who took home a second with her time of 1:38.91. Frair was followed by her teammate, Amy Bentley, who took third with a 1:43.30.
• 400 yard Freestyle Relay: Greene solidified their win the the last event as the team of Kelly Darling, Nicole Flohr, Kiersten Frair, and Katie Delgado dominated the waters winning the relay with a time of 4:48.98, nearly winning by a full minute. In second for the relay was Greene as well – Danica Blasko, Maggie Roosa, Amy Bentley, and Ciara Gunderson who finished at 5:44.67; and in third was the Whitney Point relay who finished with a 6:16.12.
Up next for the ladies of Greene (1-4 overall) they will swim next later on today, Friday, Oct. 7, when they travel to Oneonta for the meet which is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m.
