Second half push lifts Trojans over the Storm
NEW BERLIN – A scoreless first half, two Chenango County teams vying for the victory with nearly even paced offenses – that is what the fans watching the varsity boys soccer game between Unadilla Valley and Greene enjoyed.
Prior to the game UV honored their three graduating seniors: Than Gary, Geoff Keach, and Evan Mendoza.
However, the matchup on Oct. 5, was decided in the second half of the game, as the Trojans lit up the scoreboard with a trio of scoring shots from Mikey Repp, Spencer Klumpp and Jordan Taft.
“Both teams played a hard game with opportunities on both sides of the field,” said Unadilla Valley head coach Ryan Houck.
In the shots column Unadilla Valley would nearly keep pace with the Trojans of Greene as they recored seven shots to Greene's 10 – with an equal four corners a piece.
In goal for each, Ryan Lohsen of UV, and Adam Lamont of Greene each tallied seven saves a piece for their respective teams.
The 3-0 loss for Unadilla Valley (4-10) will now give them a chance to return to practice until next Tuesday, Oct. 11, when they will be playing in the MAC Crossover tournament. In the win for Greene(9-4-1), they will now be heading to Bainbridge-Guilford on Friday, Oct. 6, in an away match set to begin at 5 p.m.
