Hands-on workshops planned for equine owners in central NY

MORRISVILLE – Cornell Cooperative Extension of Madison County and partners at Cazenovia and Morrisville State Colleges have announced registration is now open to equine owners for two upcoming workshops. The educational workshops will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on October 12 and October 26, and will each discuss a unique facet of equine ownership.
Equine owners and those that work around horses are said to benefit from attending the hands-on workshops that will expose participants to the best practices of the equine industry.
A workshop on 'Equine Health and Care at Home' will take place on October 12 at the Cazenovia College Equine Education Center located at 4460 Woodfield Road, Cazenovia, New York. Registration will begin at 6 p.m.
This first workshop will be led by Program Director and Associate Professor of Equine Business Management at Cazenovia College, Barbara Lindberg. She will discuss general equine health and at-home care. Topics that will be discussed include: when to call the veterinarian, and what to do before/instead of needing a veterinarian to make a visit, as well as how to be proactive in terms of keeping your horses healthy.
The second workshop on 'Equine Hoof Health and Care' will be held in partnership with Morrisville State College on October 26 at the Morrisville State College Equine Habilitation Center located at 4414 US-20 Morrisville, New York. Registration for the second workshop will also begin at 6 p.m. The discussion will be held by Certified Farrier Doug Corey.
Cost per workshop will be $10.00 for the first registration and $5.00 for an additional family or farm member. Madison County 4-H members are invited to attend for a $5.00 fee. Visit www.madisoncountycce.org for more information.
