Harpursville Hornets remain undefeated with statement win over CV
BINGHAMTON – The undefeated Harpursville-Afton Hornets remained just that, undefeated as they played up two classes to face close-by Chenango Valley, winning 20-7.
Chenango Valley, a class B team who was hot off of last week's win over division rival Norwich, was stopped dead in their tracks when faced with the Hornets this past Friday, Oct. 7.
In what was considered the first ever night game for the Warriors, the Hornets had no plans in ruining their perfect season thus far instead handing CV a loss, due in part to Harpursville's deadly rushing attack – which saw two athletes rack up yards over the century mark, as Madison Hoover tallied 132 yards on the ground, with Josh Wilson adding 102 yards.
The game between the Warriors and Hornets remained stalemated for much of the first half, as Harpursville-Afton only could muster one score in the first half as Wilson ripped off a 50 yard run to the house in the opening quarter for the 6-0 lead. 6-0 is where it remained heading into the half.
The third quarter saw Hoover tack on a rushing touchdown from four yards out for the 14-0 lead, following a successful two point conversion run again from Hoover.
At 14-0 heading into the final quarter, a worn down CV would muster enough to avoid getting blanked on the day, as Aaron Trumino rumbled in for the Warriors from 33 yards out for the score.
Just for safe measure, Wilson pounded his way in to cap off the win for the Hornets, as they tacked on the late one yard rushing touchdown to claim the victory at 20-7.
With the win, state ranked Harpursville-Afton (6-0 overall) remains undefeated as they will now prepare for a divisional showdown between them and the Trojans of Greene (5-1 overall) in what will be the deciding game for the divisional title on Friday, Oct. 14, in Greene at 7 p.m.
