Greene field hockey secures fourth seed in sectionals, following back-to-back wins

GREENE – To finish out the 2016 regular season, the lady Trojans of Greene's field hockey team stacked on another win when they hosted the Black Knights of Windsor, beating them 4-2.
Hot off their senior night dominating win the night prior, Greene once again showed some prowess on the offensive end on Wednesday, Oct. 12.
Youngster – ninth grader – Madison Rice, decided it was her opportunity to step up for her team, scoring the teams first goal on the night with 10:32 left in the first half.
Taking the lead to 2-0 at the halfway point, Greene enjoyed a second goal with just 3:05 left, as tenth grader McKenna Sergi took the pass from Katie Anderson for the strike.
Already at 2-0 at the halftime break, the offensive would not slow down after they took the field once again in the second half, tacking on two more scores – off of their 11 shots of goal and six corner performance.
In the loss Windsor managed six shots on goal and five corners.
Earning brace on the day – with both goals coming in the second half, both from McKenna Sergi – was Alyssa Sands. The junior forward took two scores in at 19:51 and 7:40, before the gas was finally let off some from Greene as they owned a solid 4-0 lead.
Windsor would sneak two late goals in as an attempt at the comeback, however, it was too little too late as Greene glided their way to the win.
As for now the lady Trojans have all but locked up the fourth seed in the post-season sectional play, and will await confirmation on who they will face in the first round of the post-season come Oct. 20.
