Five new Norwich PD officers to be appointed

NORWICH – Per an agenda issued on Friday, Oct. 14, five new Norwich Police Department officers will be appointed at the Common Council meeting on Tuesday evening, Oct. 18, at 6 p.m.
All five officers will be subsequently sworn in at the meeting, pending the passing of the resolution by the Council. Of the five officers, one was hired as a lateral transfer from the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office with a start date of Oct. 13.
At the Joint Committee meeting on Oct. 4, City of Norwich Director of Human Resources Deborah DeForest said that of the four remaining potential officers, one would not need to attend the academy beginning on Oct. 31, but the other three would.
DeForest went on to say that these appointments are only to fill current vacancies and not the expected vacancies next year.
The meeting will take place at One Court Plaza in Norwich and is open to the public.
