Newark Valley Bob Greene cross country invitational
NEWARK – The Tornado runners emerged from a solid meet in Binghamton to travel to Newark a mere three days later to run another 3.1 mile course.
Norwich's Jeffrey enjoyed the most success on Friday, Oct. 14 when she took home a 15th place finish in the invitational with a time of 20:15. Jeffrey competed with 138 other girls to bring home that finish.
Following Jeffrey on the girls side was Nicole Mikalunas with a 115th place finish with a 30:06 time, Leslie Galeano at 118th with a 33:39, Payten Seiler at 122nd with a 35:07, and Alison Mikalunas at 137th.
The winner on the girls side was Kate Mertus of Corning who ran a solid 18:54.3 for the win.
On the boys side 213 runners took to the course on the day. It was Corning's Trevor Prutsman who emerged the champion on the day when he set a new meet record with his winning time of 17:49.3.
Of the six Norwich boys who competed in the invitational, it was Chris Barton who enjoyed the most success with his 58th place finish. Barton ran the course with a time of 20:29, to which he edged out hist teammate Jacob Russell for the top Tornado spot, as Russell finished with a time of 20:43 however, placed 68th.
John Matlack-Grey finished in 70th with a time of 20:50, followed by Kody Harrison in 101st with a 21:54, Zayn Harper in 104th with a 21:59, and Brandon Cardoza in 18th with a 33:06.
Next up for Norwich, they will take both the girls and boys varsity cross country teams to Marathon for the Marathon Invitational this coming Saturday, Oct. 22.
