Hornets advance to MAC league finals after stinging Oxford
HARPURSVILLE – The Harpursville-Afton Hornets varsity volleyball team will now advance to the MAC league championship to face off against undefeated Bainbridge-Guilford, following their semi-final win over Oxford at 3-0.
The shutout of the lady Blackhawks on Oct. 18, featured a second seed Harpursville-Afton team that allowed third seed Oxford to only reach 18 points in a set once. The Hornets won the first set in what proved to be the closest margin the match, winning 25-18. Following the 1-0 lead, Harpursville tacked on two more set wins by the scores of 25-12 and 25-17.
In the win for Harpursville-Afton they enjoyed five athletes standout: Tienna Avery had six aces and 25 assists, Carelyn Decker five aces, Amanda Greenwood had 10 kills, Alley Fynboe seven kills, and Dallas Fehrman managed 10 digs.
In the loss for the Blackhawks Raigen Ehly had five aces and two kills and nine digs, Allison Beckwith two aces and two kills, Savannah Beech had two aces, Indaria Quintana had two aces and four kills and nine digs, while Andrea Dempsey had one block.
Harpursville-Afton (9-2 in MAC league, second seed) will now face off against Bainbridge-Guilford (13-0 overall, 10-0 in MAC league play, first seed) come this Friday. The matchup for the 2016 MAC Championship will be played in Bainbridge, on Oct. 21. Oxford (8-3 overall) will play this coming Thursday, Oct. 20, in the consolation round of the tournament, however, it is unknown who they will play at this time.
