Lady Tornado win against JC, advance to sectionals

NORWICH – Following a loss to Oneonta earlier this month, the Norwich girls’ varsity swim team dominated at their meet this past Friday against Johnson City and are now headed to the sectional championships next month.

The lady Tornado scored 112 points against Johnson City’s 52 at the home matchup Oct. 21.

The win follows a loss to Oneonta at an away meet Oct. 12, with Oneonta finishing with 99 points to Norwich’s 75. In Oneonta, Norwich led in only four of the twelve events.

In the matchup with JC, the lady Tornado led in nine events, dominating the pool at the Norwich Family YMCA.

The 200 yard medley relay teams for Norwich placed first and second. Melissa Stroh, Kaitlyn Blaisure, Emerson Burton and Lauren Llewellyn finished with a finals time of 2:15.51. Norwich’s second team, with Haley Shattuck, Riley Revoir, Jazmine Potter and Ashton Wenzel finished with 2:22.57.

JC’s two teams followed with times of 2:22.98 and 2:41.96.

Maya Blaisure of Norwich took first in the 200 yard freestyle, earning her team six points after a finish time of 2:10.27. Margie Winter – also of Norwich – wasn’t far behind finishing at 2:11.40.
