Crimson Knights upset second seeded Deposit

DEPOSIT – The Lumberjacks of Deposit – a heavy favorite to advance to the Section IV Class C field hockey finals – fell victim to the crafty Crimson Knights by a score of 2-1.

With a halftime lead of 2-1, the opportunistic Knights marched into the second half confident they could knock off the number two seeded, 16-2 lady Lumberjacks.

Afton took the halftime lead following a strike from Madison Baciuska and Sam Scholier – with an assist coming from McKenzie Hoyt.

Emerging from the halftime break, Afton held their one-point lead throughout the remainder of the game solidifying the win, as they played solid defense, while also getting amazing play from their goalkeeper Jordan Nichols – seven saves on the day.

The most impressive aspect of the upset win, is the fact that of the seven shots on goal and six corners from the Crimson Knights, two landed for scores; while on the opposite end, Deposit was afforded more shots with nine and three corners but only could manage one strike in the first half.
