NFD now conducting fire inspections

NORWICH – As of Tuesday morning, Nov. 1, the City of Norwich Fire Department has been conducting fire safety inspections of every business, nonprofit agency, vacant building, and apartment complex within the City.
With the exception of larger companies that have multiple buildings and floors, the inspections will be conducted on a walk-in basis and not prescheduled. Uniformed Norwich Fire Department personnel will enter the location and request to do a fire inspection.
These inspections are done for the safety of the public, as well as the safety of the firefighters in the event of a fire.
While conducting these inspections, firefighters will be looking for any noted fire hazards, blocked exits, fire extinguishers, and exit signs within the building and other areas of concern.
If you are a business owner and would like to know more about the fire safety inspections, Chief Tracy Chawgo invites you to contact him at (607) 334-3411, or by email at NFDChief@roadrunner.com.
