Carr lifts Bobcats to final win with overtime two-point conversion

BAINBRIDGE – The Bobcats of Bainbridge-Guilford made it 4-0 to finish out the season, after they pulled out a miraculous late push in the later parts of their final game, to defeat Thomas A. Edison 28-26 in overtime.
The final game of 2016, on Friday, Oct. 28, had no shortage of fireworks for the Bobcat fans who attended, as the once 0-5 Bobcats moved their record to an improved 4-5 to finish out the season.
However, despite the win, it was Thomas A. Edison who took a commanding lead early on scoring twice in the first quarter – Garner nine yard score and Houghtling 43 yard run.
B-G would respond to the early 12-0 deficit in the first quarter with a rushing score of their own – Nick Decker 5 yard run – however, would still trail Thomas A. Edison 12-6 at the half.
That is when the scoring stopped until the fourth quarter rolled around. And with the fourth quarter came the theatrics.
The deficit for the Bobcats grew before it shrunk, as Garner claimed his second touchdown of the night off another nine yard run to open up the fourth quarter – Garner two point conversion, making the Thomas A. Edison lead 20-6 at the time.
A run heavy game opened up when BG quarterback Evan Hyzer launched a 60 yard pass to Zach Ouimet for the strike – two point conversion Austin Carr.
With the lead now 20-14 in favor of Thomas A. Edison, Hyzer went to the air one more time in the fourth quarter, this time finding Alan Terzo for the 30 yard touchdown pass, taking the score to 20-20.
Overtime, featured Thomas A. Edison confidently open the extra quarter with a touchdown coming once again from Garner, 13 yards out – in what Thomas A. Edison hoped would be the final score.
That is when Bobcat senior Austin Carr and his offense returned the favor, with a solid drive of their own to find the end zone with a 20 yard touchdown run.
With again a tied score, at 26-26, Carr punched in his final points as a Bobcat with a two-point conversion that took his squad to a new level as they claimed the 28-26 overtime win.
Remarkably in the game, B-G would win 28-26, but the opportunistic Bobcats would be out-gained in first downs – 10 to 14 Thomas A. Edison – while also losing the turnover battle, coughing up two fumbles and an interception compared to Thomas A. Edison's one fumble and one interception.
This final game of 2016 last Friday, marked the end of Bainbridge-Guilford's varsity football season as they finished 4-0 to comeback to an overall record on the season of 4-5. For Thomas A. Edison, they finished 1-8 overall, while scoring their highest points in a game against B-G – most points scored in a game prior to last Friday, was 14.
