Continentals dominate NESCAC field hockey awards

HAMILTON – Three members of the Hamilton College field hockey team were named to the 2016 NESCAC All-Conference Team and the Continentals captured three of the conference's individual awards.
Goaltender Julia Booth '19 (Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich Academy) and forward Eva Rosencrans '17 (Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich Academy) were first-team picks and midfielder Emma Anderson '17 (Greene, N.Y./Greene Central School) was named to the second team. Booth was selected NESCAC Defensive Player of the Year and Michaela Giuttari '20 (Warwick, R.I./Loomis Chaffee School [Conn.]) was honored as the league's Rookie of the Year. In addition, the NESCAC named Gillian McDonald as its Coach of the Year.
Booth played every minute in goal for the Continentals, recording a league-leading .794 save percentage with a goals against average of 1.69. She recorded four shutouts (one short of the program's single-season record) and held six other opponents to a single goal. Booth was named both NESCAC Player of the Week and Division III Defensive Player of the Week by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) following a pair of wins over nationally ranked opponents (3-0 over No. 19 Williams and 2-1 in overtime over second-ranked Bowdoin). In her career, Booth has compiled a save percentage of .779 and a GAA of 2.22 over 28 games with six shutouts.
Rosencrans was the only four-year all-conference pick on this year's NESCAC all-star team. A second-team selection in 2013 and 2014, she earned first-team recognition as a junior and senior. A second-team All-American last fall, she's a two-time all-region player as well with second-team accolades in 2014 and a spot on the first team in 2015. Rosencrans finished her career with a school-record 51 goals; her 117 points rank second on the program's all-time list. This fall she racked up 35 points (14 goals, seven assists) with three game-winning goals. She was the NESCAC's sixth-leading point producer and also finished sixth in the conference in both goals and assists.
Anderson started every game this fall and finished with 10 points on three goals and four assists. She collected 23 points in her career (seven goals, nine assists) and started all 63 of the Continentals' games over the past four seasons. Anderson is a two-time member of the NESCAC Fall All-Academic Team and represented Hamilton on the 2014 NESCAC All-Sportsmanship Team. She's been named to the NFHCA All-Academic Squad every season.
Giuttari was Hamilton's leader in points and the NESCAC's leader among first years with 36 on 14 goals and eight assists. She ranked sixth in the league in goals and points and third in assists. Giuttari was a two-time NESCAC Player of the Week during the season, earning the honor after scoring eight points in wins over Connecticut College and third-ranked Middlebury and again after scoring the game's only goal as Hamilton beat ninth-ranked Amherst in the quarterfinals of the NESCAC Championship. Giuttari was also the NFHCA's Division III Offensive Player of the Week following the win over Amherst.
McDonald completed her 11th year as Hamilton's head coach, leading the team to a 12-5 record. In their fourth NESCAC Championship appearance in their six years in the conference, the Continentals were the third seed for the NESCAC Championship, which was a program high. They achieved the school's highest national ranking, rising to 11th in the NFHCA poll. Five of Hamilton's wins came against nationally ranked opponents, including the 2015 NCAA champion and runner-up. McDonald, who has won 77 games as the Continentals' coach, earned postseason recognition from the Liberty League in 2009 when Hamilton's staff shared the award for Coaching Staff of the Year.
