Home for the Holidays: Norwich's inaugural house decorating contest
NORWICH – The Garden Clubs of Norwich in conjunction with Norwich's Business Improvement District (BID) have announced a new holiday event in the City of Norwich: a house decorating contest called 'Home for the Holidays.'
“It is evident that there has been an increase in beautiful home decorating throughout the City in recent years,” said Norwich Town and Country Garden Club President Jane Clement. “Since our Garden Clubs and the BID contribute to civic beautification of our City, we thought that this would be a new way to add to these efforts.”
The Garden Clubs and BID submit that the contest is easy to enter: any City of Norwich resident who lights up their home for the holiday season before 6 p.m. on December 6 is eligible to win in a number of categories including best use of white lights, best use of colored lights, wreath usage, best door decoration, best porch decoration, best window decorations, best use of holiday trees, religious theme, and decorating for children.
In addition, the judges will also be giving a 'choice award' for best overall display. Winners in each of these categories will be recognized with a certificate of honor, a lawn marker, and a photograph in The Evening Sun.
The Garden Clubs and BID are hoping that City residents as well as their friends and neighbors in surrounding areas will come to Norwich during the holiday season to shop, eat, and enjoy the efforts of the many participants and creative people who call Norwich their 'Home for the Holidays.'
