Chenango Public Health: Still plenty of time for effective Flu vaccinations
NORWICH — With flu activity increasing and family and friends planning gatherings for the holidays, now is a great time to get a flu vaccine for those not yet vaccinated. A flu vaccine can protect you and your loved ones, almost anyone aged six-months of age and older should get a flu vaccine at the onset of every season. This season, CDC recommends only flu shots, and not the nasal spray vaccine.
While seasonal flu activity varies, flu activity usually peaks between the months of December and February, though activity can last as late as May. As long as flu activity is ongoing, it’s not too late to get vaccinated, as far out as January, sometimes later.
An annual flu vaccine is the best way to protect against this potentially serious disease. Even if you have already gotten sick with flu this season, it is still a good idea to get a flu vaccine. Flu vaccines protect against three or four different flu viruses depending on which flu vaccine you get.
It’s not too late to get a flu vaccine to protect yourself and your loved ones this flu season. Chenango County Public Health Department: Nursing Division is offering flu vaccinations. The vaccine is free for children 18 and under and the cost for adults is $17.
The December immunization clinics are on Wednesdays, Dec. 7, from 4:30—7:30 p.m., Dec. 14, from 1—3 p.m., and Dec. 28, from 9—11 a.m.
